Assessment for Learning

What assessment for learning means to me:

Throughout my practicums, I have used various forms of assessment methods while focusing mainly on formative assessment. Although I have used various rubrics and methods, I believe that students are always being assessed despite there being a rubric or other methods of assessment. Formative assessment methods that I have used include exit slips, peer assessment, gallery walks, self-assessment, and teacher feedback. While using these methods during my practicum, I was able to facilitate an understanding of the struggles that my students were encountering, difficulties they were having to acquire specific skills, and learning targets that were not being tackled. Further, I was able to reflect on my lessons and make necessary adjustments to meet all the needs of my students. Although there are perks of using summative assessments within certain lessons, I believe that formative assessments have helped me to recognize areas that my students need help with and learning gaps that are in the classroom throughout my practicum experiences.
