I was born and raised in the town of Prince Rupert, British Columbia. This is where I went to school and participated in extracurricular activities. Participating in extracurricular activities reinforced my extroverted personality and inspired me to work with youth. I have been an aspiring teacher since sixth grade, inspired by my experiences with my own teachers. My teachers taught me about the importance of hard work and believing in myself. These attributes and skills helped me reach my full potential, and I want to help develop these skills in the students I will encounter as a teacher. I hope to help my students develop their independence, their confidence to learn through exploration, and their development of interpersonal, social, and emotional skills that allow them to reach their full potential. I want to instill these skills through group work, cooperation, and independent exercises. Although different subjects have different pedagogical foundations, I have a strong passion for all. As an educator, scaffolding and formative assessment will help shape my philosophy; however, I fully expect my philosophy to evolve over time due to the experiences I’m going to have as an educator.
